What is Perkins IV?
Perkins IV is short for the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. The Perkins IV Law provides the direction and the funding to support continuous improvement in career and technical education but it is up to the community of educators around the country to ensure this continuous improvement happens and that CTE is seen as integral to secondary and postsecondary reform efforts underway in our communities.
Several themes are evident throughout the new Act—accountability for results and program improvement at all levels, increased coordination within the CTE system, stronger academic and technical integration, connections between secondary and postsecondary education, and links to business and industry.
