Nontraditional Participation Under Other Perkins Required Activities
Many campuses have specific goals and strategies that they are doing in nontrad and equity under some of the other Perkins "required" activities besides #11 or even #9 & 10, Services for and full participation of special needs populations.
This "integration" of nontraditional and equity services and programs within other key areas really is important for helping people to incorporate the importance of these issues in all aspects of career and technical education. Here are some examples from post-secondary and secondary Perkins campuses on the 12 Required Activities:
Required Activity #2: Experience in and understanding all aspects of the industry - consists of students gaining experiences through work-based learning and other job preparation activities.
Required Activity #4: Professional Development - coordination/alignment of regional education and workforce preparation activities; workshops and conferences on awareness of nontraditional occupations, best practices, etc. of students entering NT programs.
Required Activity #6: Continuous Program Improvement - review/evaluation process of vocational programs for purpose of improving recruitment and retention including assessing if nontraditional to either gender, viability to industry needs
Required Activity #7: Effectiveness of services and activities - data collection and management of recruitment and retention activities including nontraditional participation and completion
Required Activity #8: Broad-based community involvement - parent awareness in career education; involvement of industry in events; workforce initiatives, and collaborative projects.
Required Activity #12: Collaboration - partnerships with secondary or post-secondary, etc. for career development, events, career assessment services
